For instruction on prayer, we reach back to an era when people actually prayed. Maybe they were less busy. More likely they were more convinced of the reality and power of God, and less enslaved to the myth of self-sufficiency.Joel Beeke is a pastor and president of a seminary in Grand Rapids that is distinctive in its appreciation of dead theologians from the Reformation and Puritan eras. These summaries of men’s writings on prayer is rich and instructive. The book is both convicting and challenging.
The question will have to be answered, “Do you really want to pray like a Puritan?”, or more importantly, “When will we begin to pray like God’s children?”
